About Me
Matko is a licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW) working towards his clinical license (LCSW). He earned his bachelor’s degree in social work at The University of Georgia, followed by his Master’s degree in social work from New York University. Matko was born in Croatia and immigrated to Atlanta, Georgia, with his parents as a small child. Matko worked in the non-profit sector with vulnerable and underserved populations with mental health and addiction issues in the north Georgia and Atlanta area.
As a therapist devoted to men’s and addiction related issues Matko understands that societal expectations and stereotypes can make it challenging to seek help. Whether dealing with issues related to work, relationships, self-esteem, addiction or mental health, Matko provides a safe and non-judgmental space to work through your concerns. Matko can explore healthy coping mechanisms, improve communication skills, and develop strategies to enhance overall well being through cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), and Narrative therapy. He believes vulnerability is a strength through which profound growth and healing happens.
Using his own life experience Matko can create an inclusive space for clients with diverse cultural backgrounds and offer empathy and understanding. Matko has a unique perspective that can help clients understands challenges and emotions that come with addiction and recovery and can use his own journey to demonstrate that recovery is possible and that it is a process that takes time, effort, and dedication.
Matko is under the supervision of Cristina Lorenz-Hansen MSW, LCSW, CFCS.
